All students in Key Stage 4 take:

- Physical Education (enrichment)
- ECDL Information and Communication Technology
- Citizenship and Religious Education (enrichment)
In addition, students choose from the following optional subjects:
- GCSE History, Art, Geography, Resistant Materials, Drama, Textiles, Hospitality, Music, French, Psychology
- BTEC Business, Sport, Health & Social Care, Travel & Tourism

Art
We are a dynamic, enthusiastic Art Department with three fully functioning art rooms.
Students, throughout their time with the Art Department are taught in mixed ability groups. We have a well established extra curricular programme for all key stages including an Art Club for students who wish to do extra study.
Business
Our Business department aims to give students a clear understanding of a wide range of business topics.
We will build and develop students´ knowledge of the business world. Students will gain knowledge to understand the economic climate and system in which they live and work. We will equip them with the skills, knowledge and informed attitudes that will help them to be active members of their community.

Design Technology
Technology is taught in three specialist rooms, all of which have had investment in recent years in equipment and facilities.
The most recently refurbished area has been the industrially equipped teaching kitchen with a purpose built serving area/ restaurant, named ´Le Bistro´ and, a new Textiles room.

English
We are a committed, enthusiastic and successful team of experienced and well-qualified teachers of English. We firmly believe in equal educational opportunities for every child. We are a friendly, supportive and inclusive team of colleagues and regularly enjoy extra-curricular events, trips and activities with our students.
History
History is a popular subject both in KS3 and KS4. In KS3 students are able to get to grips with their own past and country´s history.
ICT
Our ICT department aims to develop the skills of our students so they can use ICT effectively and safely in all areas of their learning. We will encourage students to achieve their full potential and recognise routes for specialising in ICT as they progress. As the use of technology increases in all aspects of society creative, productive and confident use of ICT is an essential skill that students require for society today.
Inclusion
Harrogate High has one of (if not the) best inclusion departments in Harrogate. The team consists of 9 teaching assistants who are all specialised in a curriculum area and many of them have extensive training to deliver programmes such as Reading Intervention, Inference intervention, Dyslexia screening, support for students with English as an additional language, extra tuition for Gifted and Talented students, specialist support for Visually impaired students, weekly mentoring sessions as well as many other qualities.
Languages
The Department aims to ensure that every student is educated to a high standard and appropriate to their ability. As a Department we have high expectations of all the students in our care, and we strive to establish an atmosphere in which all students feel safe and confident to succeed. Learning another Language encourages students to work collaboratively and communicate with others. It greatly improves listening skills and increases oral confidence as students try to have conversations with each other or native speakers in the foreign language.
Mathematics
The department aims to ensure that every pupil is educated to a high standard, appropriate to their ability. As a department we have a high expectation of each pupil. Mathematical education involves the development of concepts in Number. Algebra, Shape and Space and Data Handling and our prime objective is to equip pupils with the necessary skills associated with these Attainment Targets.
Music
The high quality of music making is a feature of Harrogate High School. The Music Department can boast excellent facilities, with a self-contained block for music making and teaching. This comprises two large teaching rooms, one of them a computer and keyboard studio, a rehearsal area, a Sixth Form tutorial and practice room, a percussion practice room, four further practice rooms and a Sixth Form computer room.
Performing Arts
Welcome to the Performing Arts department. Within the department we have a studio, our very own Theatre and a purpose built dance studio.
Physical Education
Physical Education is taught by a large team of specialist teachers who oversee development in all of the curriculum areas.
Religious Education
Religious Education is taught to every student in Key Stage 3. During this time we focus of the major world religions, working in line with the new North Yorkshire syllabus. We begin in year 7 with a introduction to key spritual thinkers and the key skills needed for sucessful progress and devlopment in RE all from a philosophical perspective. At the end of Year 9 students will pick either full course RE or full course Citizenship to gain a GCSE by the end of Year 10. We are a committed department and are proud of the engaging and exciting lessons we plan and deliver for our students.
Science
The Science Department is amply resourced with equipment, text books and electronic resources. The labs are bright and modern, having been extensively refurbished.
Social Sciences

Vertical Mentor Groups
At Harrogate High School we have a ´vertical´ tutor group structure where students from all year groups work together each day to take part in activities centred on themes that complement the curriculum and enable students to develop into well-rounded citizens.
